MY DESCRIPTION
Yudanaka Onsen is after Shigakogen Heights the biggest area (in size) around here.
Many of local people live in Yudanaka, which is you find here School, Kindergarten, Groceries, Vegetables, Clothing shops, many Restauranst and Night bars. Here this may be more convinient for the backpacker style tourist, but it reduces the traditional beauty of the old town. Anyway, in Yudanaka Onsen there are many old buildings, temples and it has a particular atmosphere. The most beautiful and my favourite is at the end of Yudanaka street, behind the biggest Public bath. I like the trees cated in Japanese style and the old architecture of the surrounded buildings. I noticed there are not many people walking in yukata or kimono on the street.
BIT OF HISTORY
History of Yudanaka Onsen is longer than 1350years. The very famouse poet Issa Kobayashi loved this place. One of hotel owners gave a house to Issa Kobayashi in the center of Yudanaka Onsen area.
INTERESTING
The Goddess of Mercy for World peace - I advise everybody to go here.
You can see from everywhere around - the big bronze statue on the hill in the shape of Buddha called Hyaku Shaku Cannon (the tallest statue of its kind in the World) . In the night they light it up. This place is located under the forest, and you can enjoy a really peaceful atmosphere and have look out on the area. There is temple next to the statue. For 200yen you can go inside the temple and inside of the statue. Inside of the statue are 33 small statues, which where brought from 33temples of Kyoto and others cities. You can ring the 33 bells next to each buddha and pray. It's just like you prayed in 33temples. In front of the temple is a big 2meters high bell. You can ring the bell and wish of something. The sound of the bell is strong and people around whole town can hear it. There are other two points in this walking path (Stone Buddhist Image of Miroku and Tobacco diety for Prolonging Life)
